Good evening everyone!
Today I have something very special for you guys and I’m very excited about it. I had a chance to take a part in the grand opening of David Lynch’s exhibition in Toruń in November last year. It was very interesting and inspiring experience because David Lynch was invited to open it. Ok, I have to say it, the exhibition is simple stunning! I felt like a little kid in a candy shop. If you want to be that kid too, you still can. It’s open till Feb. 18th.
I’m aware that some of you may think that the man is insane and weird, but for me personally, “weird” or “insane” means “interesting”. Ok guys. Let’s start from the beginning.
My interest in David Lynch’s art started around 6-7 ago, thanks to my friend, who encouraged me to listen Mulholland Drive soundtrack. She gave me the CD and said: “listen this one, it’s amazing”. I liked it a lot and after that I started watching movies and of course Twin Peaks. The weirdness, I told you before was very fascinating. Especially when I was watching one of his movies, suddenly something happened and I had no idea what is going on. You know that, right?
What I like the most in David Lynch’s works is the fact that no one see them the same way, which makes them very unique, demanding, unpredictable and different. Yep, you have to use your brain and figure it out on your own.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have any chance before to watch his paintings. The exhibition was my first opportunity to watch them. What can I say. It’s really enormous catalogue of artworks.
As we can read on the website, the exhibition contains: “around 400 of Lynch’s works: from his earliest sketching explorations from 1950s, through his painting/film inspirations from 1960s to his latest works from 2017”.
You can watch paintings, graphics and sketches from different periods. There is absolutely everything, even paintings on plates or matchboxes but it’s not only the visual art but also music, movies and animations. You can feel like you are in different world. If you have a while and you like this kind of art, you have to watch it. I’m sure you won’t regret. Honestly, I spent 5 hours in a train to get there and I would like to go again. It was so good. Please look at the photos I’ve made. I don’t want to show you everything, only let you know what you can expect 😉
